Street Witch is a vibrant, trashy old school FPS about Megan, a witch in 90's Goblin City. Her beloved cat (and magical power-source) The Dark Princess has been stolen by a group of nasty Goblin Yobbos (Gobbos). Her apartment trashed, her magic gone, Megan takes to the streets to exact revenge on the Gobbos and get her cat back. Using guns, steel toe caps and a smattering of magic, Megan leaves a trail of destruction across Goblin City in the search for her cat. All the characters are fully voiced so that everyone you encounter in the game has their own personality, including Megan herself. Street Witch is a no-frills, lo-fi, linear action game, designed to be played and completed in a couple of sittings. While mechanically simple, the game leans into immersion, with diagetic music and a super minimal HUD.
This is Alien Cartel's debut game, a new micro-studio from ex-roll7 founder and Creative Director John Ribbins. After a year long hiatus at the end of roll7 in 2024, John returned to making games in '26 starting Street Witch, a game focused on old school art and action. The concept was to make a game where a chunk of the creative time could be spent away from the PC, incorporating his other interests in prop building, kit bashing and model making. Using the Doom / Mortal Kombat approach of videoing real people and digitising the video into sprites, every character in the game is Ribbins or a friend dressed in costumes and wearing a hand made mask. The same goes for all the weapons, items and hand animations. Similarly all the voices in the game are performed by a roster of friends, partners and community members, aimed at enhancing the hand made feel to the project. The game is deliberately trashy, from it's story to it's lurid, lo-fi art, the whole experience is designed to ellicit memories of old 90's shareware games, straight to VHS action movies, and that bad dream you had where everyone had the same face.
